Backyard sports enterprises inc. Humongous Entertainment was (and nominally remains) a video game developer formed in the 90s to make kids’ games. They made their bread and butter from two types of products: adventure/puzzle point-and-clicks like Putt-Putt and Spy Fox, and, of course, the Backyard Sports series, which I have paid tribute to previously and which the guys over at Cespedes Family Barbecue have done several brilliant posts on (like this one).
However, as sometimes happens, Humongous fell on hard times, passed between various corporations, and has most recently had it’s assets sold when Atari went under a year or two ago.
Which leads us to the current situation. Most of Humongous’ point-and-click classics, like Putt-Putt, went to a studio called Night Drive, and they have restored them and are putting them up for sale on Steam, the famous digital distribution platform that has allowed for countless of current best-sellers and forgotten classics to be put into the hands of gamers digitally. Thanks to the fact they don’t have to worry about shipping or actually creating a physical copy of the game, prices are often lower (especially for older games, although even newer games often have sales now and then).
Problem: When Atari went under, one of the things that Night Drive did not get was the Backyard series. Instead, the “Evergreen Group” did. So, the Backyard games have NOT gone to Steam.
Yet. You see, to the best of my knowledge, the Evergreen Group hasn’t done a thing with the Backyard sports stuff they have in their possession (there was a brief thing on their Twitter about “stay tune”, but…). Let’s change that with a good old fashioned campaign:
Mar 09, 2020 I mean I remember spending hours on my parents computer absolutely destroying teams in Backyard Baseball. This game was truly ahead of its time. I'd still love to sit down and bang out a handful of games with Pete Wheeler, Pablo Sanchez, Achmed Kahn, Ken Griffey Jr, Kiesha Phillips, Alex Rodriguez, and the rest of the MLB players. Best Backyard Sports games? I'm looking to buy a Backyard Football and Baseball game. I played backyard baseball 09 and really liked it so I'm picking that one up.
- Tell TEG’s Twitter feed and Facebook Page that we want Backyard Baseball (and the other Backyard Sports games) on Steam.
- Contact them through their website. (Note that the contact page may not be working, as it gave me an error message when I tried it. Still may be worth a try.)
- Send actual snail-mail to the Evergreen Group’s headquarters at 1600 Rosecrans Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266 (note that I am not sure if this address is current, as I found it on a old SEC info thing that popped up on Google).
Backyard Sports Reddit Game
So, there you go. Be courteous, be polite, and remember, the Secret Weapon forever.
UPDATE: Jim Wagner of the Evergreen Group has confirmed that they will relaunch the franchise, which is great. However, it really doesn’t change the goal of this Campaign to get Backyard Baseball and the other Backyard Sports games on Steam.
Followed in the spring of 2002, with updated rosters (e.g. Was no longer in the game, but was). Backyard sports pc. Later that year, a game licensed by the and the, was released.

We're really sorry for the inconvenience, but please would you disable your ad-blocker? Backyard sports basketball 2007 ps2. Our adverts are relevant and non-intrusive, they appear only at the top and the sides, never in the content. They don't include auto-playing audio either, they really won't spoil your enjoyment of the site. Thank you in advance!
Want to see this appeal go away forever? Support us on Patreon and we'll make that happen! Click the button on the left to find out more.
'I'm not running an ad-blocker!' -Refresh/reload the page, if you still see the panda or have other problems then click here to contact us immediately, thanks.
'Why are you doing this?' - Frankly we're struggling to make ends meet here especially since the site got more popular. The only way we can think to cover our costs is to run ads, but if so many of you keep blocking them..
'But I never click ads!' - Doesn't matter, you should only click them if they interest you. We get paid based on the number of views AND the number of clicks.
'You ruined the site!!!1! I want to send you hate mail!!' - Sure, click here.
Another fact - We have the software and the power to completely block adblock users from our site, but we're not going to, at least for now. We figure most of you would like to support us and you only installed Adblock because of other sites that aren't so considerate with their ad placement. Please, don't punish us because of them, in the seven or so years I've been a blogger/webmaster I've ALWAYS considered the need to balance monetisation with reader experience. I want to build an audience not send them away.
So go on, whitelist us and any other site you love. If it wasn't for ads, the internet would lose a whole chunk of really great niche content like this, which would be a real shame in our opinion.
Now, go ahead and read the page if you want to, but wouldn't it be much more convenient if you just whitelisted us? :)

Baseball is a hugely popular sport in many countries, including the USA and Japan. Here in the UK however, it never really caught on. In school, we play a similar game called “Rounders”, which is frankly a stupid name well worthy of ridicule. There have been lots of computer simulations of Baseball, but Backyard Baseball is specifically aimed at children. In the game, the player will need to pick and manage his or her team of neighborhood kids and take them up all the way to the Backyard Baseball World Series. The original game (which we’re covering here) was released in 1997 and went on to launch a successful series that’s still going strong today.
Installing and playing
The original Backyard Baseball is a 16 bit game which means it cannot run natively on more modern versions of Windows. You could install a Windows XP virtual machine and play the game there. Rather than doing that however, you may wish to use ScummVM instead. ScummVM is a special program that helps older adventure games to run. Now, you’re probably thinking “a baseball simulator doesn’t sound much like an adventure game”, but remember this is a children’s baseball game and so has a few similarities to a point and click adventure game. Because of this, it’s supported by ScummVM and easy to run on modern machines.
To run the game with ScummVM, simply copy the entire contents of the games CD-ROM to a convenient location on your PC, then point ScummVM to the folder. There’s a comprehensive tutorial here that takes you through all the steps in detail.
There are no CD audio tracks to copy, so once the CD is copied and ScummVM is configured and options set to taste, you’re good to go.
